When printing, there are ways to save ink that take a little bit of effort, but will save you ink, and therefore money. Printers are set up to read the document by codes and percentages. The colors are typically set up as CMYK, or Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Black. These are the four colors that are used to create any color you may need to print. The percentage of each toner color will create a different color for the print.
Chances are, your printer uses more than just black ink to print black on a default setting. This is a mix of 100% black with a smaller percentage of cyan and magenta, sometimes using yellow too, (usually around 40% of each) to get a more saturated looking black color. If you are printing something that doesn’t need to be a true, rich black, you can easily change the settings so your print job is not using the other colors. When you go to print a task, change the printer settings to black and white or draft, depending on the quality you are looking for. Depending on what software program you are using and if you have the ability to change the CMYK, another option is to change the color of the text in the document to only 100% black.
Always print a test sheet and see if the results are what you want before printing larger quantities. If a print job is for a presentation, you’ll want the very best quality print. However, if it is for a personnel file, it won’t need to be as saturated and it’s ok to print in black and white or with draft quality, cutting down on the amount of toner used and cutting your price per page down.
